VERY YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN Cast Revealed

*sigh* We reported last year that FX had ordered a TV series of Very Young Frankenstein. Well, it’s now been cast.

Based on Mel Brooks’ classic comedy, Young Frankenstein, it’s going ahead with Brooks’ blessing.

The bad news is, Takia Waititi is producing and directing a Very Young Frankenstein. Is there a name that casts more fear and dread? Waititi recently created the Time Bandits TV series, of which I could only get through one episode.

Very Young Frankenstein is from the production team behind What We Do in the Shadows. I haven’t seen that, just never fancied it. Have you seen the series? Is it any good?

A pilot episode was shot last year and directed by Waititi. The cast included Zach Galifianakis, Kumail Nanjiani, Dolly Wells, Spencer House, Nikki Crawford, and Carl Elwes. There is no news on who is playing whom.

Young Frankenstein ranks number 28 on Total Film magazine’s readers’ List of the 50 Greatest Comedy Films of All Time, number 56 on Bravos’s list of the 100 Funniest Movies, and 13 on the American Film Institute’s list of the 100 funniest American movies.

Young Frankenstein is a movie that doesn’t need a remake of any kind. If they insist on doing it, it should stick as close as possible to the original. Having a TV series prequel, well, I can’t imagine anyone is looking forward to an idea like this.

Time will tell what becomes of the series.
