Indie horror film Late Night With the Devil opened this weekend on over 1,000 screens and pulled in $2.8 million, placing it in sixth place at the box office. Sixth. 6.
According to a report in Variety, the weirdness didn’t stop there. The one-day haul for the Sunday, the day when many people head off to church, was $666,666. chalk this up to the same kind of strange incidents that happened on the set of The Omen movies, perhaps?
Elsewhere, Sony’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire took $16 million at the North American box office on its opening day on Friday, putting it just about level with Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The weekend haul is looking like landing around the $45 million mark. It has overcome some soft reviews to top the box office for the weekend.
Sydney Sweeney dressed as a nun sounds like something from a particularly desperate A.I. prompt history. Yet people still turned out for her horror movie Immaculate as it took $2 million on Friday, heading for a $5.4 million overall take for the weekend. That brought it home in 4th place.
Above that was Dune: Part Two in second, with another $17.6 million taking the domestic total to $232 million. It is now closing in on $600 million globally.
Kung Fu Panda 4 was third with $16.8 million, and a drop of 52%.
Arthur the King was in fifth with $4.4 million in its second weekend on release.
This week sees the release of Godzilla x Kong. After that things really start to roll with Monkey Man, Civil War, The Fall Guy, and Furiosa dropping week after week to ease us into the summer.
