New Doom Doesn’t Come Cheap

Reports say that the new Doctor Doom is not a Stark variant of any kind, and is a brand new character. So now we have more idea how Robert Downey Jr’s return to the MCU will work, let’s talk about how much it is going to cost.

A new report in Variety has revealed some of the numbers involved.

Downey Jr. would apparently only return to the MCU if the Russo’s returned, as they are the only team he would work with. The article says that they are being paid $80 million to return, and it states that Downey’s fee was “significantly more” over the next two Avengers movies.

His deal is also said to include private jet travel, beefed up security, and an entire “trailer encampment”. Which sounds kinda like a fort.

The Russo deal includes them producing under their AGBO production house, something Marvel Studios never do, as they usually keep things in-house. Production is also shifting from Atlanta to London for shooting next year.

The deal doesn’t include back-end compensation but does have what the article refers to as “performance escalators”, meaning more compensation kicks in as (if) the movies pass $750 million and $1 billion marks at the box office.

Downey Jr. will move directly from his Broadway debut in Ayad Akhtar’s mcneal in the fall to preproduction on Avengers: Doomsday in the new year.
