THE SOCIAL RECKONING To Tackle January 6th

Aaron Sorkin’s follow-up to The Social Network is called The Social Reckoning, and will tell the story of the rise of online misinformation. It is based on the 2021 article The Facebook Files, where engineer Frances Haugen teamed with the Wall Street Journal’s Jeff Horwitz to expose the company’s most dangerous secrets.

Fertile ground for all sorts of theories and debate. Not shying away from potentially contentious subject matter, video has emerged from the set that appears to show The Social Reckoning portraying the January 6th incidents in Washington. the “insurrection”.

The Vancouver Art Gallery stands in for the U.S. Capitol building, and a report from Vulture says the scene features numerous extras holding American flags and wearing MAGA hats storming the steps as security attempts to keep control.

Social-reckoning

The January 6th event happened when supporters of outgoing President Trump gained access to the US Capitol in an attempt to halt the counting of Electoral College votes to confirm Joe Biden as US President.

One side claims it was an attempted insurrection, an attempt to overthrow the elected government and subvert the democratic process. The other claims it was nothing of the sort, with security failures being painted as deliberate, and a lot of exaggeration being applied.

Haugen himself has claimed that Facebook played a role in enabling the events of January 6th.

The Social Reckoning will open in cinemas October 9th, 2026.
