Amazon Scraps STARGATE

Amazon only ordered the Stargate revival series late last year, but according to a report in Variety it has been scrapped. They have pulled the plug.

Martin Gero, a writer on Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, was writing the show and was lined up as showrunner and executive producer.

The report says that Amazon executives were “concerned” that Gero’s story would have leaned too heavily on the lore of the franchise and nt had broad appeal.

Right… so a bit like Picard season 3 then? It actually gave fans what they wanted and was loved for it, but executives were all sniffy that the proles in the fan base were appeased in a way they had failed to do? Perhaps?

Amazon is said to be still keen to explore relaunching the franchise, and Gero remains under a deal, but his Stargate won’t be the one moving forward.

Stargate began life as the well-regarded 1994 film written by Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich before spawning an TV franchise that birthed several spin-offs and expansions.

Stargate Universe ended in 2011 and the franchise has been in hibernation ever since.
