Strange New Worlds has its moments, but ultimately trips over its own feet just as much. Some Outposters make warm noises about Lower Decks. Discovery was a bust, and Starfleet Academy was simply an abomination. The final seasons of Strange New Worlds is in the can. Starfleet Academy has also filmed what will be its second, and final, season.
This means Trekkers find themselves in 60th-year celebrations with no real clue as to what comes next for their favorite franchise.

Star Trek Beyond was a decade ago, and several movie attempts since then have come to nothing. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves duo Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are said to be writing, directing, and producing a new movie, but that remains just a script in development right now.
There are presently no new TV shows in active development.
So where does the televisual version go from here? In an interview with Deadline, Jane Wiseman – Paramount+ Head of Originals – was asked about the Star Trek and plans for new streaming shows. She referenced the recent hiring of former Apple TV+ creative executive and co-president of Sony Pictures Television Studios Chris Parnell:
“It’s one of the reasons why Chris [Parnell] is here as the resident number one fan of the Star Trek franchise…and there are so many people in this building, by the way, that are.
It is our goal, and it is our job to figure out what the next bounce of Star Trek is. We’re talking to a lot of writers, we are leaning on CBS Studios, and it is imperative that we figure out what the next iteration is in this franchise because it’s just too important. We also are in touch with Paramount Pictures, they have a Star Trek movie that’s in development.”
Sounds like somebody has had her orders from Paramount CEO David Ellison, who is clear that Star Trek is a vital IP for their whole operation going forward.
