It all used to be so easy, didn’t it? Steve Rogers was the first, he went into the ice and while he was having a chilly nap, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, and Thor happened. Then we were off to the races for Avengers. Then they went and made things complicated. Star Lord left Earth in the late 1980s. Captain Marvel happened in the 1990s.
There was the multiverse. Quantumania, Eternals, Shang-Chi. All of these presented aspects of their stories from different times in different places from the MCU. Now it is hard to keep track of where we are. This is before we take into account Doctor Strange and his limitless possibilities.
The MCU may be seemingly running out of some steam lately, but this is exactly the kind of geeky shit I am here for. A new book called The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline is here to put all this straight in our tiny little minds.
The officially sanctioned publication will establish the canonical chronology of every single event, reference, and nod so far in the MCU including all movies and television series. According to Marvel exec Brad Winderbaum:
“It’s the first time we’re officially laying out the timeline, it’s incredible once it’s all laid out how interconnected and how seamless it is.”
The events leading up to the Blip, Endgame, Loki breaking stuff – it will all be in there. It might even manage to clear up the timing confusion around exactly when Spider-Man: Homecoming is actually set. If you are a Marvel geek, then you know what this is about. Even Joe Russo admitted this was a cock-up.
Will it include references to a certain foursome traveling into space? Or the discovery of the mutant gene?
The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline is published on 23rd October, in time to be a perfect Christmas gift for the massive nerd in your life.
