We know that Doctor Who is about to collapse under the continued weight of clumsily inserted “current year” thinking and personal projection from showrunners who continue to place personal outlook above a mission to entertain.
Still, before the spectacular implosion happens, at least we have the chance to enjoy a least a small respite in the form of the return of one of the best-loved incarnations of the Doctor in the form of David Tennant. The very first of the Doctor Who 60th-anniversary specials launches tonight on BBC One in the UK and on Disney+ worldwide just a few hours later.
Ahead of that, a new clip from the first of the specials has been gone online.
The Doctor unexpectedly regenerated back into a previous form at the end of Jodie Whittaker’s run. The universe seemingly has a plan for the Doctor in this form, and it centers on his past companion Donna Noble. The Tenth Doctor had to wipe her memories of all of their adventures together in order to keep her alive, and was forced to say a heartbreaking goodbye. Now they are drawn back together by forces outside either of their control. Now, as the Fourteenth Doctor, he has to figure out why.
The next two specials will air on December 2nd and December 9th, then Ncuti Gatwa takes over as the Fifteenth Doctor in time for the Christmas special.
