As we all know, James Gunn took over the DCU and is going to try to do what Marvel did. He’s given us a new Superman, and it seems that a new Wonder Woman is on the way.
Most of the DCU has been played fair close to their chest, but we know that Supergirl, Clayface, Batman and the Swamp Thing are going to make an appearance. It’s thought this will follow the story of Gods and Monsters.
Entertainment Weekly recently talked to Gunn and asked about Wonder Woman. Gunn confirmed that a new movie is on the way:
“We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman‘s being written right now.”
This new Wonder Woman is a “separate thing from Paradise Lost”, which is a series for HBO/Max. The story of Paradise Lost is:
Set in Themyscira, home of the Amazons and birthplace of Wonder Woman, will focus on the genesis and political intrigue of an island of all women.
Gunn says that the series is “slowly moving forward”, but the new Wonder Woman is being written right now. So far, there is no news on casting who will play Diana or any of the members of Paradise Lost.
Gal Gadot has been the iconic Wonder Woman since 2016. She was in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, right up until cameos in The Flash and Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
Chances are, Gadot won’t be back. They had the perfect Superman in Henry Cavill, and they let him go. Taking a wild stab in the dark, but I reckon that Patty Jenkins won’t be back to direct either, not after WW84.
