A lot has been going on with Salem’s Lot. It was in production, then it was cancelled, and then it was back. It now turns out it is back on and there are a few images online via Vanity Fair.
Stephen King created the original story about a small town, in middle America. Residents start to go missing one-by-one, as they are picked off by night stalking fiends.
OK, not bad, not bad. It does look interesting at least. Some of them seem to be very green screen, but what looks like a set, looks decent. They have recreated the ‘boy at the window’ scene.
Weren’t the original kids’ brothers? Here, one of them is, but the other one must be adopted. I hope they keep scenes like this simple. The original, I remember, being one of the scariest things I’d ever seen as a kid. I say kid, I was 22, but still.
Long production
The movie has been in production longer than Dracula has been alive. Gary Dauberman, who’s the writer and director of this new Salem’s Lot, has been working on it for a while. He was signed off after screenwriting It and It Chapter 2. That was back in 2019.
Dauberman has said that the movie is inspired by “the lurid humor and macabre extremism of late-night grindhouse thrillers.” He went on to say:
“You could do a very dry version of this movie, but that’s just not my personality. It’s trying to ride that wave’s ups and downs. You’re having fun with it, and then you can have a scare, and then you’re having fun again. Hopefully it feels like a complete ride at the end.”
Salem’s Lot will be on Max in October. Are you looking forward to it?
