It looks like JJ Abrams, fresh from seeing his plans to seize control of the DC Universe at Warner Bros. go up in smoke, will continue his quest to become the new Spielberg. In true Abrams fashion, he will do this simply by copying Spielberg in every way.
His new project will be led by Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega. Plot details are under wraps and no production start date is set, but the rumors say the project has The Last Starfighter vibes, and tells the story of a young married couple struggling to survive against a supernatural entity.
Poltergeist, then.
Of course, arguably Spielberg’s biggest star collaborator was Harrison Ford, so Abrams wants him in the project. According to scooper DanielRPK it will be Abrams first directorial effort since The Rise Of Skywalker slinked away from theaters pre-COVID.
Did you know that Abrams’ films have grossed over $4 billion worldwide, making him the eighth-highest-grossing film director of all time?
In 2019, he also made his debut as a writer for Marvel Comics, co-authoring the company’s title Spider-Man from September of that year. The first thing he did was kill off Mary-Jane Watson, and put in a twelve-year time shift, switching the series’ protagonist to Ben Parker, son of Peter Parker and Mary Jane.
Suddenly Superman: Flyby begins to make sense.
