SUPERGIRL Box Office Rises, Cain Critisized

Last week we talked about how the box office tracking for both The Odyssey and Supergirl seemed to be defying online noise and commentary.

For Supergirl, the latest set of tracking seems to be bearing that out. After talk of an increase, the figures are now pointing to a domestic opening of $60-77 million.

Meanwhile, 1990s TV Superman Dean Cain, from Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, has been in a spot of bother online after a post he made referring to Supergirl lead Milly Alcock.

Somebody posted on X, sharing an image of a Neanderthal-type alien.

A report on CBM says Cain responded:

“Dang it… I laughed”

This caused something of an online uproar, with many saying Cain should have remained above it and not commented.

Supergirl-Cain

Is there no such thing as bad publicity? Does this online noise actually raise awareness of the movie and its impending release, perhaps adding a “cultural conflict” angle?

And at what point does not being engaged with an upcoming movie cross the line? Or is this sort of thing just the price of doing business?
