According to Hollywood rumor, Warner Bros. are famous tinkerers. They simply cannot help themselves. Whenever there is a project of some kind underway, the notes will flow and the suits will get their fingers into all the pies. Usually, this is unhelpfully reactive, like with Superman.
They completely wobbled after Superman Returns, eventually to set up Man Of Steel as a reaction to the success of Nolan’s Batman, wanting to capture the same vibe for another of their hero properties. Then they did a 360 on the Man Of Steel sequel plans, completely reactively to the success of the MCU, and insisted that Batman was included and that their own cinematic universe was rushed into existence.
We all saw how that ended.
It could be happening again. After bringing on James Gunn and Peter Safran, promising them complete control to get them to sign up, Warner Bros. top brass seem to be decreeing that all IPs are to be mined across all platforms and, of course, they are not going to change their tinkering ways. So how will this impact the new DCU?
According to a rumor online, the first place the suits’ tentacles have started to probe is the upcoming trailer for Superman.
Reporting on the rumor over at the ever-reliable Dark Horizons, they quote a post on X from writer and filmmaker Dan Marcus where he says:
“From everything I’ve heard, there is enormous pressure internally from inside Warner Bros. for the trailer to be received well. Apparently the studio asked for multiple different cuts of the trailer to find the best version. To clarify, since every trailer necessitates multiple cuts, apparently the editor cutting the trailer presented a fairly finalized version to the studio weeks ago. The studio wasn’t happy and said ‘Make it better’.”
The report also states that the Hollywood giant recently cut the marketing department fairly savagely. Gunn is very closely involved in the trailer, and in a recent interview one of the stars of the movie, Frank Grillo, said he had seen it and it was amazing.
Meanwhile, the report also reveals some poster art has been released for the upcoming CCXP convention.
