WONKA 2 Is Happening

Last year’s Wonka was a surprising delight. Certainly not made for your average Outposter, but by the time the first big musical number ends you are all in, foot-tapping along and hoping that nobody sees you watching it, but enjoying the hell out of it. It was clearly made with love by people who knew exactly what they were doing.

The prequel story to Roald Dahl‘s 1964 novel Charlie and The Chocolate Factory ended exactly where you would expect it to, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t going to try a sequel. The first movie made $632 million at the worldwide box-office and showed massive legs. It also went big on PVOD.

So now original director Paul King (Paddington 2) has confirmed he’s involved in the sequel and the script is in progress. In an interview with HeyUGuys he said:

“We’ve got about half of a draft. We’ve got a story that we like and we know where we want to take him.”

There is an “untitled family film” booked for Warner Bros. on December 17th 2027. If schedules can be made to work then star Timothee Chalamet would move directly on to Wonka 2 from Dune: Messiah in 2026.

Potential storylines would have to include the mass immigration of Oompa-Loompa slave labour, and the ongoing corporate espionage activities of Arthur Slugworth, Gerald Prodnose, and Felix Fickelgruber.
