The next movie in the Predator franchise will reportedly be called The Badlands and will be set, according to reports, “sometime in the future”. Dan Trachtenberg returns from directing the last installment, Prey.
After the absolute mess that was The Predator, it is fair to say that Prey benefitted massively from going back to basics in the execution. The result was an enjoyable, low-key entry in the franchise that was a good use of a couple of hours in the company of Hulu, or Disney+ if you were outside the US.
The sequel will also be written by Trachtenberg, in conjunction with his Prey collaborator Patrick Aison.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Great star Elle Fanning is in talks for a leading role. Fanning scored an Emmy nomination and three Golden Globe nominations for The Great.
20th Century Studios reportedly has several projects set up in this universe and Trachtenberg is being lined up to marshall the franchise.
Meanwhile, also in the world of all things Weyland-Yutani, Fede Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus has a poster, and it’s very… huggy!
This is a standalone feature, set between Alien and Aliens. The official plot synopsis for Alien: Romulus says:
“While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”
Cailee Spaeny (The Craft: Legacy, Pacific Rim Uprising) leads the cast alongside Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu.
Alien: Romulus drops on August 16th and will go to theaters, not streaming. According to reports, a trailer for the latest Alien installment will be released later today! We will update you when we have it.
