Time for something nice, a feel-good indie movie, Something Pointless. It’s all about being nice, look, it makes a change.
It looks sweet, and not a superhero movie, I’m happy to check out a screener for it.
Something Pointless stars Owen Teale, Sophie Thompson, Leo Harris, Sule Rimi, Radhika Aggarwal, Jennifer Evans, and Tom Mumford. Asa Bailey directs, with Neil Graham and David Cornmican writing. The story:
When an unhappy young boy discovers an older man quietly affixing painted eggshells to a disused wall in their neighbourhood, he begins to understand how even the smallest, strangest acts can leave behind something lasting.
The rest is from the press release. Written by Neil Graham and David Cormican and based on Graham’s 2010 Canadian Short Screenplay Competition (CSSC) first-place winning screenplay, Something Pointless has screened at a number of film festivals, including the USA Film Festival, Yorkton Film Festival (Canada) and the Carmarthen Bay Film Festival (Wales), where it was nominated for the prestigious John Hefin Best Short Film Made in Wales Award.
The film has also received recognition internationally, winning Best Short Film at both the 2026 Ideal International Film Festival (India) and the 2026 Athens International Monthly Art Film Festival (Greece), as well as Best Picture at the 2026 East Village New York Film Festival and Best Narrative Film at the 2026 Unseen Film Festival.
Something Pointless follows an intergenerational bond that forms between a lonely, bullied boy and an elderly man whose quiet, pointless daily ritual becomes an unlikely act of defiance against insignificance.
Something Pointless will have its premiere on 19th June.
