THE OFFICE Australia Trailer

You know how we keep saying “That looks truly awful!” and then something comes along and is even worse? Let me present to you the trailer for The Office Australia.

Honestly, words fail me. I cannot put into words how bad this looks. There is nothing funny at all, there are no characters I want to watch and gender-swapping Michael Scott. I mean, just, why?

When they did the casting call for this, did they put on it ‘…are you ugly and unfunny? Then why not audition for The Office…’. The British version had Dawn, played by Lucy Davis. The US version had Pam, played by Jenna Fisher. Both of them are delightful and you would be happy to see them everyday on reception.

In this new version, I can’t even tell who the ‘pretty one’ is, maybe this, umm, thing?

I’m a fan of The Office, I think the US version is superior to the UK version. They did start to suffer towards the end, but seasons 1 – 8 ish, are very good. When Michael leaves it starts to go downhill.

Overall though, it’s a great series and I love the characters of Michael, Pam, Jim, Dwight and all the others. You genuinely care for them and, I’m going to say it, love them.

This new version of The Office looks just terrible. Steve Carell, who played Michael Scott, recently said about The Office today:

“…But apart from the fact that I just don’t think that’s a good idea, it might be impossible to do that show today and have people accept it the way it was accepted ten years ago. The climate’s different. I mean, the whole idea of that character, Michael Scott, so much of it was predicated on inappropriate behavior. I mean, he’s certainly not a model boss. A lot of what is depicted on that show is completely wrong-minded. That’s the point, you know? But I just don’t know how that would fly now. There’s a very high awareness of offensive things today — which is good, for sure. But at the same time, when you take a character like that too literally, it doesn’t really work.”

That’s not going to stop someone from making it though! We are living in the worst cultural desert in human existence. I would find more entertainment in cave drawings at this point.

Am I being a little too critical and sounding like a grumpy old fart? I guess not, at the time of writing this, this is the ratio.
