ALIEN: ROMULUS VHS Limited Edition Release

I still have a VHS player, I put videos on digital for people. Also, I have an original theatrical copy of Star Wars on VHS, let’s see Disney take that away from me. It seems though that VHS isn’t dead, not yet anyway.

Alien: Romulus is getting the ‘now standard’ 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD release. The official Alien: Romulus Twitter account announced it would also be getting a VHS release.

The director, Fede Alvarez, worked in lots of references to the original Alien movie. After watching the Romulus, I couldn’t decide if it was homage or just plain stealing. Personally, I didn’t rate the movie, so I’m going to say stealing.

Since the first ever Alien movie was originally released on VHS, this limited edition version of Alien: Romulus is another ‘homage’ to that original movie. The VHS version will show in pan-scan, which is the 4:3 ratio of old TVs. So it’s made for older TVs in a format that very few people own anymore.

Cash grab? It shouldn’t be, Romulus made over $350 million at the box office. It might become a collector’s item at some point. There is no news on what the VHS will have on it or how many are being produced.

Alien: Romulus will be released on Blu-ray, DVD, and VHS on  3rd Dec. Although you can rent or buy it on streaming at the moment.
