The Chronicles of Narnia is next to get a reboot, redo, rehash or whatever it is they call it these days. Netflix acquired the rights to the C. S. Lewis novels, back in 2018. It now seems they want to make their own version, with Greta Gerwig directing two of them.
Gerwig is doing the press at the moment for her newest movie, Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. In an interview with the New Yorker, she mentioned her next movies are going to be a re-telling of the Chronicles of Narnia series.
The original trilogy of movies started with The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, back in 2005. It did rather well at the box office, turning over around $750 mill. The two sequels, Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, didn’t do so well, only earning about half that each. I think I remember the first of the movies and liking it, I can’t say I have seen the other two.
Gerwig has said she will be writing and directing two of these Narnia movies. She has previously written Lady Bird (2017), Little Women (2019), and now Barbie. Some people didn’t rave about how she ‘fixed’ Little Women, re-writing the end to have Jo unmarried and without children.
I personally think she’s a little overrated, but that’s just me. Are you interested in seeing a reboot of The Chronicles of Narnia?
