Martin Scorsese’s last movie, the historical drama Killers Of The Flower Moon was a long, long time coming. It finally premiered in Cannes ahead of a release in theaters this fall. The legendary director is not wasting any time in setting up his next project.
Once again he will team up with Apple Studios and adapt the work of author David Grann. Grann wrote the novel upon which Killers Of The Flower Moon is based, and he has a new book out – The Wager. While out promoting this book in France, Grann let slip that an adaption of this book is next in line for Scorsese.
The Wager now sits on top of the New York Times best-seller list. The non-fiction work is set in the 1740s and begins when a patched-together boat with 30 emaciated men landed on the coast of Brazil. The men claim to be the survivors of a British ship that crashed onto an island in South America’s Patagonia region. Their tales of surviving the seas and elements make them heroes.
Six months later, another and even more dilapidated vessel is found off the coast of Chile. This ship, carrying three survivors, claims the other men were actually mutineers. As accusations fly, the British Admiralty set a special trial to uncover the truth of what exactly happened on the island.
Scorsese has been developing multiple projects at once, including a Jonah Hill-led Jerry Garcia biopic, a DiCaprio-led Teddy Roosevelt biopic, and a film about Jesus. It appears that The Wager has won the race to be next. Leo DiCaprio is expected to appear in the film.
