Amazon are backing a new adaptation of Stephen King’s novel Carrie. This one comes from the celebrated Mike Flanagan, the man behind The Haunting Of Hill House and Midnight Mass.
This will be the first time the story has been made into a series for television. The previous adaptations were Brian De Palma’s 1976 movie. There was also a sequel that flopped, another remake, and a TV movie.

This new version will follow high school misfit Carrie White (Summer Howell). She has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan).
Her father’s sudden death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social‑media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence.

So there you have it. The story will be updated to include the scourge of our age – social media.
Flanagan confirmed this in an interview with EW. Where he confirmed it won’t necessarily be faithful to the book, as that version has already been told:
“De Palma adapted it faithfully and beautifully 50 years ago. Then it’s been adapted twice after that, officially and unofficially. It’s been imitated scores of times.
So for me, this was never going to be a straight adaptation. The only way to approach it was to build something new out of the ingredients of Carrie.
Otherwise, there’s really no purpose in trying to retread ground that’s been so beautifully walked before.”
This telling of the story will be bigger in scope, but will feel very different.
The cast includes Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle.
Prime included a “First Look” on their recent X feed.
