Firstly, I will warn you, that the trailer for Freaky Tales does star Pedro Pascal. I know he’s in everything at the moment, but the trailer looks interesting. It is another Redband trailer, so be warned.
Freaky Tales has been described as ‘Pulp Fiction-esk’, which follows the story of an NBA star, a corrupt cop, a female rap duo, teen punks, neo-Nazis and a debt collector.
The movie stars Pescal, Tom Hanks, Ben Mendelson, Angus Cloud, Keir Gilchrist, Jack Champion, Ji-young Yoo, Dominique Thorne, Jay Ellis and Michael X. Sommers. New to the scene, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are the writers/directors.
They are known for directing Captain Marvel, but it might be nice to see them not under the thumb of Disney. The story for Freaky Tales is:
Four interconnected stories set in 1987 Oakland, CA. will tell about the love of music, movies, people, places and memories beyond our knowable universe.
It did look like it was sprinkled with ‘memberberries. Pascal plays the debt collector, who takes on one last job. Mendleson is the corrupt cop. Ellis plays the sword-wielding NBA star. Freak Tales was originally shown at the Sundance Film Festival 2024. Lionsgate will release the anthology that is set in Oakland in 1987. Some reviewers have said it nostalgic of the Bay Area from the 80’s. The only thing I know about the Bay Area is what I’ve seen in movies.
Freaky Tales will be released on the 4th of April in theatres.
