More Indiana Jones? Even now? We have often said here at Last Movie Outpost that Batman, in movies, is basically the US equivalent of James Bond. A character that has been played by multiple actors in different styles but within a framework, with a variety of recurring but also recast supporting roles, and tied to the same basic lore.
One character who could have had the opportunity to go this way was Indiana Jones. The right time for the fourth and fifth entry was the 1990s. Failing that, it was time to recast and make the character live on forever as per Bond. They didn’t, and the opportunity probably passed.
They might be about to have another try, though.
Online scooper The DisInsider has a pretty good hit rate, and they are reporting that Disney has started to explore a potential Indiana Jones reboot with a new actor in the role.
Alongside numerous video games and The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, the character has appeared in Marvel Comics The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones in 1983, and Dark Horse Comics gained the comic book rights to the character in 1991.
Novelizations of the films have been published, as well as many novels with original adventures, including a series of German novels by Wolfgang Hohlbein, twelve novels set before the films published by Bantam Books, and a series set during the character’s childhood inspired by the television show.
So the character has lived on beyond the movies, but is this a step too far?
