Predator reboot / prequel was a good time on the couch. Dan Trachtenberg’s Prey managed to sidestep quite a few issues present in modern movies, particularly female-led action movies and was entertaining from beginning to end. It has recently made headlines again as it seems others agree. Prey was nominated for multiple Emmys, something it is eligible for as it premiered on Hulu in the US and DIsney+ worldwide.
Straight after the release there was a lot of internet chatter about opportunities for other historical Predator stories, set throughout human history. Prey neatly tied up a small plot point around a revolver from Danny Glover’s final scene in Predator 2. Speaking to The Playlist recently, Trachtenberg was asked about sequel opportuntites. He said he can’t really talk about it, but confirmed there were some exciting conversations:
“I can’t really say anything about that right now, but I’ll say while we were finishing the movie, we were having really exciting conversations. The studio, myself, the writer, and the producers about what crazy things could we do next. And I’ve never stopped, no one stopped thinking about how cool things could be going forward.”
Amber Midthunder starred in Prey, at times a one-woman show, as a young Comanche woman, striving to prove herself as a hunter on America’s Northern Great Plains in 1719. She finds herself having to face off against a vicious alien big game hunter. The movie is still available on Hulu and Disney+, but be careful not to chose the version entirely in the Comanche language. Seriously.
