They’ve only gone and made the cult classic British gangster movie Sexy Beast, a TV series!

Now, before you roll your eyes and start throwing about the C-word in Don Logan style, this could be a good thing. For my American chums, if you have no idea what I’m banging on about, you need to add this movie to the top of your watch list immediately.

The original Sexy Beast hit our screens way back in 2000 and stars Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, and Sir Ben Kingsley. Sir Ben plays a character called Don Logan who is so far removed from any character you’ve seen Kingsley play, that it takes a minute for your brain to accept what you are seeing. Don is terrifying, intimidating, relentless, and effing hilarious! Here’s his intro that may be NSFW unless you have headphones:

So anyway, back to the TV series. Paramount+ is hosting this eight-episode prequel show that is set to debut in January 2024. It will track the origin story of the Gal Dove, Don Logan, and Teddy Bass characters, played in the movie by Ray Winstone, Sir Ben Kingsley, and Ian McShane.

The story centers around Gal, who finds himself descending into the seductive madness of the London criminal world during the vibrant and volatile 1990s while falling in love with DeeDee and dealing with his complicated relationship with Don.

Michael Caleo (The Sopranos) is an executive producer, writer, and showrunner.

“I feel so fortunate to be able to explore these beautifully crafted characters a decade before we met them in the original story. This series has been a great passion of mine for many years and I cannot wait to see it come to life with this amazing cast.”

James McArdle is playing the young Gal (Ray Winstone) and he really looks the part. Hopefully, unlike real-life Ray, he can tone down his extremely overexaggerated cockney

“I feel very fortunate to be a part of this world. The original story leaves so much space for us all to wonder what happened within Gal and Don’s friendship in the years prior. I’m looking forward to everyone being able to rediscover these characters and find out.”

Fan-dabby-dozy-tastic

A selection of pictures has been released and the cast looks the business. With a writer who worked on arguably the greatest TV show ever made – The Sopranos – surely this is going to be something special and is welcomed news to me. London, Gangsters, the 1990s, and more Don Logan! This news makes me want to touch my front bottom… if you know, you know!
