Just four days out from the official release, and already the performance of Supergirl at the box office is pretty much the biggest talking point across the trades and outlets.
Remember, estimates were being revised healthily upwards just over a week before release. The reality was exactly the opposite, with $38 million domestic and $68 million globally in the opening weekend, the $170 million movie is staring at a big loss for the studio.

Variety reports that the film will finish with a maximum around $200 million globally. That is if it sticks around and Warner don’t decide to take a punt on PVOD.
At those returns, the movie would lose Warner Bros. around $100 million, confirming the discussed $300 million break even point for the movie.
The report says another reason break even was so low was because the cast and creatives don’t have backend deals. No points on the front end, and no first-dollar gross payouts. It’s all fixed fees.
Milly Alcock was reportedly paid $400,000, flat.
This is the same kind of cost control, alongside a digital first marketing strategy, that gave them decent profits for last summer’s Superman.
It hasn’t helped them this time.
Warner Bros. Has had a miserable 2026, when last year they were laughing all the way to the bank. The Bride! And Mortal Kombat II also lost them money. Supergirl is not what they needed with Paramount Skydance inbound.
