Well, this looks like it could be fun! Late Night with the Devil stars David Dastmalchian (Dune, Oppenheimer, The Dark Knight) as Jack Delroy, a suave and charismatic host of a 1970s late-night talk show called Night Owls.
Written and directed by Australian filmmakers Cameron and Colin Cairnes, Late Night with the Devil is about a live television broadcast that goes wrong when they unwittingly open a gateway to hell or something equally as mental. It also has a cools as eff 1970s style poster!
The movie is presented in the old familiar found footage style. The film purports to be derived from a rediscovered master tape of one specific episode from the show’s sixth season, broadcast on Halloween 1977; during this live television broadcast, havoc unfolds when Delroy interviews a parapsychologist and the subject of her recent book, a young teenager who was the sole survivor of a Satanic church’s mass suicide.
Late Night with the Devil had its world premiere at the South by Southwest Film Festival almost a year ago in Austin, Texas and the reviews have been pretty promising so far. Rotten Tomatoes has an approval rating of 100% based on 38 reviews. What is interesting is the film utilizes practical special effects, including puppetry, as well as cgi.
Dare I say it but this could be a slice of old-skool horror. Late Night With the Devil releases on 22nd March in theatres and then it will stream exclusively on something called Shudder on 19th April.
