FILM CLUB: Week 7

Gentlemen welcome back to Film Club. We have a new list of nine classics to choose from. Voting closes tomorrow (3rd September) at 1pm CST / 7pm UK and the results will be revealed on the Livestream! Choose wisely Outposters!

This week, we are introducing the movie synopsis for the lesser-known movies, as well as the trailer for all of them as usual. Hopefully, this gives you more of an insight into what you’re voting for. Let’s go!

Die Hard

We all know this Christmas classic so no need for a synopsis.

The Untouchables

I’m adding a synopsis to this because it’s actually remarkable the people I’ve spoken to who haven’t seen this.

After building an empire with bootleg alcohol, legendary crime boss Al Capone (De Niro) rules Chicago with an iron fist. Though Prohibition agent Eliot Ness (Costner) attempts to take Capone down, even his best efforts fail due to widespread corruption within the Windy City’s police force. Recruiting an elite group of lawmen who won’t be swayed by bribes or fear, including Irish-American cop Jimmy Malone (Connery), Ness renews his determination to bring Capone to justice.

Planet Of The Vampires

In the near future, the two spaceships Argos and Galliot are sent to investigate the mysterious planet Aura. As the Galliot lands on the planet her crew suddenly go berserk and attack each other. The strange event passes, but the crew soon discovers the crashed Argos – and learns that her crew died fighting each other! Investigating further, the explorers come to realize the existence of a race of bodiless aliens that seek to escape from their dying world.

The Quiet Man

After accidentally killing an opponent in the ring, boxer Sean Thornton (John Wayne) leaves America and returns to his native Ireland, hoping buy his family’s homestead and live in peace. In doing so, he runs afoul of Will Danaher (Victor McLaglen), who long coveted the property. Spitefully, Will objects when his fiery sister, Mary Kate (Maureen O’Hara), begins a romance with Sean, and refuses to hand over her dowry. Mary Kate refuses to consummate the marriage until Sean retrieves the money.

Flatliners

At the University Hospital School of Medicine, five ambitious students subject themselves to a daring experiment: to temporarily induce their own deaths, hoping to glimpse the afterlife before being brought back to life. But as competition within the group intensifies and their visions of the world beyond increasingly bleed into their waking lives, they’re about to learn that the greatest threat comes not from the spirit world but from the long-suppressed secrets of their own pasts.

Pillow Talk

Directed by Michael Gordon and starring Rock Hudson, Doris Day, Tony Randall, Thelma Ritter, Nick Adams. Interior decorator Jan Morrow and composer Brad Allen share a phone line. Brad keeps the line occupied all day talking to his girlfriends, which annoys Jan terribly and animosity between them builds up. They however have never met and when by chance Brad sees Jan, he decides to add her to his list of conquests. Knowing however how she feels about him, he poses as an innocent Texan country boy named Rex Stetson to win her, a plan which seems to work.

Used Cars

Rudy Russo (Kurt Russell) is an unscrupulous car salesman who aspires to become a politician. In the meantime, however, Rudy works for the nice but ineffective automobile dealer Luke Fuchs (Jack Warden). When Luke dies, Rudy takes over the lot, but he faces stiff competition from the scheming Roy L. Fuchs (also Warden) who wants his brother’s business for himself. In order to get more customers, Rudy and Roy each devise ridiculous promotions to gain the upper hand.

The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad

Sinbad’s adventure pits him against a master magician who’s trying to reach the Fountain of Destiny on the lost land of Lemuria in a bid to be crowned the new leader of Marabia. Sinbad and his crew must battle an array of monsters before finally coming face to face with his foe.
