It really has been a long road. After Fast X somehow cost $378 million to make, but pulled in only $714 million at the box office, getting the new Fast and Furious movie into production has been a struggle.
It looked like there might have finally been some movement, when the star and producer, himself seemingly no stranger to self-promotion when it comes to this franchise, posted a video on Instagram.
Vin Diesel shared an image of himself and a film crew in a garage-set with Dominic Torreto’s famous 1970 Dodge Charger in-situ.
He posted:
“On set, people are grinding, incredible crews are working…”
He then thanked fans for their patience around Fast Forever.

The inference seemed to be that they were starting work. It turned out, as reported by The Wrap, that this was nothing of the sort.
It was actually a promo for the World Cup, and it aired yesterday during the USA’s defeat by Belgium that knocked them out of the tournament.
Fast Forever is still nowhere near starting production, with Louis Leterrier expected to return to direct, and a release date no earlier than March 17th 2028.
No extended cast or crew have been confirmed, and no production date has yet been set.
