Break out your espadrilles, roll up your sports jacket sleeves, and fire up the worst Ferrari to come out of Maranello for a generation. Miami Vice is back!
The all-time legendary TV show ran for five seasons. It was created by Anthony Yerkovich and Executive Produced by Michael Mann.
Miami Vice practically reinvented 1980s neo-noir for television, by weaving in the New Wave culture and fashion of the time, including a memorable soundtrack.
It gave police procedurals a real kick just as the genre was becoming stale.
The show followed Don Johnson as James “Sonny” Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas as Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs, two Metro-Dade Police Department detectives working undercover in Miami, Florida.
From September 16, 1984 to June 28, 1989, audiences were thrilled on NBC. Re-runs always prove popular and it still holds up today.
The show got a big screen adaption in 2006. Starring Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx as the leads, the movie got mixed reviews and only pulled in $163.7 million globally.
Many critics pointed out that the movie was notoriously lacking in exposition. To which connoisseurs of Miami Vice reply “That is exactly the point!” – you have to actually watch it and pay attention.
As the movie gets revisited over time, its reputation is growing.
Well, they are having another go.. Another movie adaptation is on the way.
Scooper Daniel Richtman reported on this a few weeks ago, and now his story has been confirmed. Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski is in talks to direct a new Miami Vice movie at Universal Pictures.
Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler) is writing the script and Dylan Clark (The Batman) is producing.
You might be able to feel it coming in the air tonight.
