RIP: DONALD GIBB

Raise your voice for one more chorus of “Nerds! Nerds! Nerds!” Donald Gibb, who played Ogre in Revenge of the Nerds passed away…

Gibb battled ongoing health issues for years, so his death was not unexpected. He went surrounded by family and friends. He was 71.

Gibb’s son Travis said. “Donald loved the Lord and his family, friends and fans with all his heart. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.”

RIP Donald Gibb

Gibb’s filmography is compact but dense. He had early roles in Clint Eastwood’s Any Which Way You Can, Bill Murray’s Stripes and even Arnold’s Conan the Barbarian.

Gibbs turned to acting after an automobile accident prevented him from having career in football. He briefly played in the NFL for the San Diego Chargers. His experience as a sports jock likely helped him with his memorable turn as Ogre.

Gibb’s role in Jean-Claude Van Damme’s Bloodsport helped solidify him as a fan favorite. He also appeared in a number of popular TV shows like Magnum, P.I., The A-Team, Knight Rider, MacGuyver, Quantum Leap and The X-Files.

Via Con Dios

Gibbs was far too beloved to ever be considered for an Oscar, but he did receive recognition for his role as an ex-convict in Lost in America. Albert Brooks said he had “a rare knack for filling supporting roles with exactly the right person, however unlikely that person would seem to be for that particular role.”

He also had appeared in all six seasons of HBO’s sitcom 1st & Ten, which was one of the network’s first attempts to lure the sitcom audience from ABC, NBC and CBS to cable.

Gibb’s is not the only Revenge of the Nerds alum to fall in 2026. Robert Carradine passed away in February. May they be pals in that great fraternity in the sky…
