THE GREAT DEBATE: Best First Movie

Gather, dear Outposters, to the sacred halls, for a big mass debate. It’s nice to face each other, look each other in the eye and mass-debate all kinds of topics. The passion with which some do it is truly breathtaking. I know I love to mass debate.

Right, enough of that silly joke. Let’s get down to business.

The other day, I watched Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels again. What a great movie! It introduced us to the East End of London, a place which is fun to watch in a movie, but we would never want to go there. The movie taught Americans about Cockney Rhyming Slang, and gave us a good giraffe about it.

Lock Stock also gave us The Stath, something we are all still grateful for. It was also Guy Ritchie’s first big movie, and what a way to get our attention. It was cool, slick, with a killer soundtrack, great actors, and a decent story to follow. This got me thinking about a good debate discussion.

What director had the best directorial debut?

Ritchie put his mark on British and world cinema with a very cool movie that is still loved today. Recently, we have seen new YouTubers making their big-screen debut, with Obsession making $500 million billion at the box office, on a budget of just 78 cents. For this debate, who stands out as a director who made the best movie from the beginning of their career?

Did Tarantino stun you with Reservoir Dogs? Can you not get over how amazing Jaws was by a ‘new’ director? Is The Sixth Sense still M. Night Shalamamama’s best movie?

Join the debate, dear Outposters, and let us know your thoughts.
