Finally, finally, it has arrived at DC Studios. By “it”, we mean the script to The Batman: Part II. 3 years ago, fans watched the original and many said “huh!” Just under a year ago, I rewatched it and paid attention, finding a lot to like the second time around and small details that I had somehow missed the first time.
The second instalment seemed stalled, and the birth of the DCU under James Gunn and Peter Safran seemed to render the movie somewhat redundant before a frame had even been shot. DC stuck to the path and insisted it was going to happen.
So now the script for Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part II has officially been handed in to Warner Bros. Pictures, with Reeves himself breaking the news on social media by posting a photo of the completed script alongside himself and co-writer Mattson Tomlin.
DC Studios chief Gunn previously teased that the script was due this month at the studio, so this pans out. Gunn is also firm that no movie progresses if the screenplay isn’t where it needs to be, quality-wise.
Robert Pattinson will return, with Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell all under contract for the follow-up.
