Most theme park junkies, especially those aged over twelve years old, would probably agree that these days Universal edges out Disney in Orlando, Florida. Between Universal Studios, the Islands Of Adventure, and the upcoming Epic Universe third gate, the multi-park experience is more mature with a better selection of rides. Disney still struggles with over crowding, over-pricing, over-complexity, under-investment, and strange strategic decisions such as Sequel theming Galaxy’s Edge.
The Hollywood studio also has parks in LA, China, Singapore, and Japan. Now it is circling a potential site for a theme park in… Bedford in the UK? Anyone familiar with the county of Bedford will tell you, it isn’t the most salubrious county in the country. It is also home to Luton, and that alone earns it a place on anyone’s shit list.

Universal Studios, however, has a plan. Planning is underway for its first UK theme park and they have purchased a huge tract of post-industrial land for the project. Could King Kong, Nintendo Land, and Jurassic World be coming to Bedford?
“It will be many months before we are ready to make a decision to proceed and we look forward to engaging with all relevant stakeholders and the local community.”
The site they have purchased is long abandoned industrial land, so environmental pushback is unlikely. The site is also located strategically between Heathrow and Stansted airports, on both the Thameslink train line and local lines from London, and less than 45 minutes from the centre of the capital city. It is also estimated that more than half of the UK population lives within two hours of the location. Yeah, but LUTON!

The location could be fitting, as any weekend evening you can see local youths attempting to recreate The Fast And Furious in the car park of their local Tesco supermarket, and quite a few of the women look like they should be throwing barrels at an Italian plumber.
